The No. One Question That Everyone Working In Audi G28 Should Be Able To Answer

<![CDATA[How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster. 1. Engine Speed Sensor The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors. If this sensor fails the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40). Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay. 2. Injectors Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I put tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I think the issue is in another location. I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. webpage noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine. I'm not certain what to do, i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA! 3. Fuel Pump The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms. 4. ECU Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shut down. The signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is failing and needs replacing. They're inexpensive and easy to locate particularly in the case of an Bosch unit like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this part is also a good choice. 5. Tachometer A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues with your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your Audi because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected. The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace \[79\]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a common feature across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.]]>

Everything You Need To Be Aware Of Spare Audi Key

<![CDATA[Save Money on Replacements With a Spare Audi Key Losing your Audi keys is an unsettling experience. Luckily, there are ways to save money on replacements without the quality or security. The majority of modern Audi keys require programming to make synchronization with the car's computer. A locksmith or an Audi dealer can perform this task. The process could take up to an hour. 1. Key Replacement A car key that works is a necessary item for every driver. But losing one could feel like a significant setback. It's essential to have a spare key. This will help you avoid the cost of a new key should you ever lock your keys in your car or lose your Audi keys in a different location. Replacing a lost or stolen Audi car key is generally not very costly, but the cost can vary depending on the kind of key you have and the vehicle you are using. Replacement of traditional metal Audi keys is usually less expensive than key fobs that need to be programmed in order to work with your vehicle. If you own a traditional metal key it is possible to get a copy made at most locksmiths or auto parts stores for about $20. If you own an old keyfob, the best option is to go to an Audi dealership or an automotive locksmith. These experts can reprogram the new key and ensure that it's compatible with the car. They'll charge you an average of $220 for this service, but it can be much higher if you're replacing a key that is damaged or has a transponder chip. Many modern cars require an extra key fob which is a tiny remote control that can be used to unlock doors and also start the engine. Unlike a regular key, the key fob also has a microchip that needs programming to start your vehicle. This process can be tricky and expensive and therefore it's recommended to leave it to professionals. In the age of technological advancements, a smart key can be quite the lifesaver in the event of an emergency. But it comes at an expense, since the extra features can add up to a hefty bill if you lose your key. We'll walk you through the options for a tailored solution to Audi's most pressing issues. We'll also focus on formality and a sense of calm. There are options that will make your experience effortless, from the allure and convenience of the convenience of a KeyMe kiosk to the dealership loyalty. 2. Programming If you are purchasing an replacement key, you'll need to have it programmed. This allows the key to unlock the doors of the car, but not the engine. The cost for programming is usually included in the cost of a replacement key. Find out the cost of reprogramming, if it is not included in a key replacement. It's simple to program a spare Audi key fob. First, open one of your windows and place the spare key in the ignition "on" position. The dashboard lights will come on but the car will not start. Press the unlock button located on the key fob. It should flash twice within seconds. If your Audi keyfob isn't working it could be necessary to program the immobilizer by a dealer such as Audi Mission Viejo. In this scenario the dealer service will cost you an additional fee. 3. Transponder Key If you have lost your Audi keys, you should replace them as soon as you can. A new car key has the minicircuit known as a transponder. The chip communicates with your car's immobilizer system to ensure that the engine doesn't get activated when it shouldn't. As you'd expect, this extra feature adds to the cost of the key. A regular transponder is akin to the key made of metal, but it has the appearance of a small top made from plastic. Inside this plastic is a tiny microchip that transmits a unique signal to the vehicle whenever the key is put into the ignition. The immobilizer system receives this signal and determines if it matches the information in its database. If all the information is correct it will start the engine. If not, advice here will not begin, preventing thieves from attempting to hotwire your car and take it away. These keys are far more sophisticated than standard automobile keys and come in different shapes and sizes for different automobile models. They are designed to take more use than keys made of metal and are extremely difficult to damage or crack. That makes them a great deterrent for thieves who may otherwise be willing to take the chance of using slim-Jims to break into your vehicle. Depending on your car model There is a chance that you also possess a remote key, which incorporates the key and key fob into one unit. They are more expensive, but are easier to use because there is no need to separate them. The majority of replacement keys for an Audi will cost you between $280 and $475, depending on the model and year of your car. Be sure to take into account the programming cost as well which is usually an additional cost and is billed by the dealer or locksmith when the key is programmed. The additional programming makes sure that the key will work with your specific car model. This is crucial since without it a key will only open the doors, but not start the car. 4. Key Fob You can save money if have an Audi which does not have an electronic key fob, or if the one you do have is worn out or has electronic problems. It's possible you'll only require replacing the outer shell and buttons. They are available on the internet and cost less than a new key fob. You'll still require the key fob programmed and synchronized with your vehicle, however. Modern Audis along with many other European vehicles, have digital key encryption that requires special programming tools and technical expertise only available at the dealership according to Consumer Reports automotive analyst Mel Yu. Some dealers are reluctant to program replacement key fobs bought from a third party. However, locksmiths who specialize in cutting and reprogramming car keys are able to do this at a lower cost than the dealer. The majority of these replacement fobs can be reprogrammed by the user following the instructions provided by the manufacturer and specifications, which differ from one brand to model. It is possible that you will need to switch off and on the ignition for a specific number of times, or press specific buttons to enter the programming mode. Then, follow the rest of the instructions in order to successfully program the fob. After you have completed the programming process, make sure you end it the same way you entered it. Review the instruction manual for your system to determine how this differs by manufacturer. Test the key fob to confirm it functions as you intended. Apart from the keys that are replacement and keys, you can also get an extra mechanical key created by a professional locksmith. This is a good option if you often lock your Audi key inside your car or wish to have an extra key in case of need. Locksmiths will charge you between $200-300 to make an extra Audi and program it to your car. It's not as difficult as it used to be to get an extra Audi Key, but you should know the costs involved to ensure you're prepared. While a traditional key is still in use in certain Audi models, the majority of drivers prefer the convenience of using a key fob remote that opens and starts their car by pushing a button.]]>
